What are these Pots?
These beautiful Mycelium Pots are intended for use as
planter pots. Replace evil plastic and high-embodied-energy-extracted-clay
ceramic pots with a robust and locally bio fabricated Mycelium Wonky Pot! The
Native fungus we work with has been dehydrated and bio-sealed post-growth, to
halt further fungal-metabolism, and allow your plant roots biological peace and quiet.
-
What can I plant in them?
Anything you’d normally plant in a pot! There’s no rules. If
you want to delay the life-death-life process of your Wonky Pot Regrading back
into soil, for as long as possible, we recommend planting low-water-requiring
plants.
-
How long before this Biomaterial has no more holding power/function as a plant pot?
- Standard indoor plant, receiving weekly watering: 1 – 5 years
- Heavy/daily watering plants: 1 – 2 years
- Desert/low-watering plants: 5 years
-
Indoor or Outdoor placement?
If you want your Wonky to stick around for years, we recommend indoor residence, somewhere dry (avoid high humidity spaces), with plants that require minimum watering.
We encourage you to grab a bunch of Wonkys and put them all over – you’ll be surprised by how durable and long-lived this biomaterial is.
If surface Mold occurs, simply wipe off as you would surface mold on your
walls, clothes etc.

Your wonky pot is the dehydrated-skeleton of a fungus,
that’s evolved to:
1) persist in the ecosystem despite all manner of biological forces wanting to
consume it. Mycelium is surprisingly durable.
2) become otherwise, and completely cycle every atom and
embodied energy back into the eco-system, during/after death. Your Wonky Pot is not yet dead.
Some Funga exhibit a third life phase than life and death,
“anhydrobiosis”, which means metabolism (and time) is completely halted, but
life could return with water, or death may have already happened. Que Fungal
Rabbit hole..
-
How long does it take to break down, once buried or put in home compost?
Your Wonky Pot is made of 100% biodegradable fungal and plant material. The entire Wonky is bioavailable and will become beautiful soil if buried (allow 2 months to decompose).
-
Do I have to line my pot to keep it from becoming otherwise?
Wonky Pots are sealed with a gorgeous oily tree resin, which prevents soil moisture, and microbes, getting at the Mycelium Composite. It’s waterproofed on the inside and base of the pot, by the resin, but will degrade once a live microbially rich medium (compost, or mature soil) comes at it from every direction.
-
How long does this material take to biodegrade?
Internationally, a lot of work has and is being done with this material. It’s a completely viable replacement for many toxic, polluting, diempowering and/or unsustainable materials! Mycelium Composite can replace Polystyrene in every application.
Most research suggests that about 1.5 – 2 months of contact with active soil or a compost heap will completely cycle your Wonky Pot into
‘otherwise’/soil (unless sealed with a bio-film, like the Wonky Pots).
-
Can the whole Pot be planted straight into the ground?
Your Wonky Pot is a treat for soils. Our in-house work suggests that for most plants, being buried in a Wonky Pot improves life/health outcomes. The degrading mycelium nourishes the local soil micro-biota, while the ligno-cellulosic fraction of the pot acts as a dynamic moisture bank, and reduces desiccation over the short-term.
-
This material can replace Polystyrene, and you’re just growing it into Wonky Plant Pots??
Our Facility and world-class technical expertise is growing rapidly to accommodate price-competitive, Mycelium biomaterial Products, at scale. If you’re interested in being a part of native Australian Fungus replacing Polystyrene Insulation, produce boxes, even whole built environments, then please send us a message and introduce yourself.
We believe in (and are) becoming fungal, and the greater our interconnection and diversity - the more potential and resilience there is in the network. We're embedded in ecology, and long for our materiality and existamces to embody this.
We are actively receiving industrial, retail, human and other collaborative
enquiries. Scale your ecologically positive hand-print with ours.
-
Do you do workshops, teach this materiality, speak at events?
Absolutely. We love this material, we love teaching how to work with it. We love stimulating growth. Just get in touch, we can organise all manner of collaborations.
